Dr. Jeffrey E. Thomas, Founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Dr. Jeffrey Thomas Stroke Shield Foundation, is a cerebrovascular neurosurgeon with special expertise and interest in stroke. His neurosurgical practice is based at Washington Township Medical Foundation and Washington Hospital. One of very few neurosurgeons in the United States with dual expertise in microsurgery and Interventional Neuroradiology (microcatheter-based minimally invasive brain blood vessel surgery), Dr. Thomas earned both his undergraduate and medical degrees at Columbia University in New York, and completed his internship and neurosurgical residency training at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center and the University of Southern California, respectively. He completed his fellowship in Interventional Neuroradiology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, and his research fellowship at the Cardiovascular Research Center of Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School in Boston. He is an active member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, The Joint Section of Cerebrovascular Surgery of the AANS and CNS, and the Society of Neurointerventional Surgeons. He is the author of over 100 peer-reviewed scientific abstracts and publications, and 11 patents for medical devices and pharmaceuticals.
Dr. Thomas is certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the largest organization of surgical specialists in the world, and an elected Fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine. Following his university-based academic career, he entered into private practice in 2003, affiliated with California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC), where he originated a comprehensive center of excellence for cerebrovascular neurosurgery, interventional neuroradiology and stroke. Now Medical Director of Cerebrovascular Neurosurgery and Interventional Neuroradiology at Washington Hospital in Fremont, CA, he is focused on originating a new center of excellence for cerebrovascular surgery and stroke at that institution. The Stroke Shield Foundation epitomizes Dr. Thomas’ interests in stroke prevention, modern brain surgery, medical research and the public health.
